Spring is Almost Here!

We're expecting pansies and tulips soon!  What to do in your garden while you wait?  Clean it up and start preparing!

Here's a great checklist:
  • Check shrubs and woody plants and prune if necessary.
  • Early Spring is the best time to move perennials.  Take stock and make notes.
  • Organize your shed!
  • Clean and sterilize anything you will be using this spring/summer.  (Sterilize using one part bleach, ten parts water).  Perform on terracotta pots, planters, and starter trays. Rinse thoroughly, then dry.
Be careful not to start working in the garden too early. The soil needs to be damp but not soggy or sticky. If you take a handful of soil and make a ball, it should fall apart easily when you open your hand. Also, setting out plants prematurely often results in discouraging losses. Planning and getting ready to go saves time and money you'll want to spend on cool new plants and tools.
